If you already have an Analytics account, you will need to validate using your Google Analytics tracking code , which must use the analytics.js or gtag.js snippet.

Several types of errors can occur when validating the Google Analytics by turnover and average check tracking code:

Add an HTML tag to your site’s homepage

Another option to confirm that you are the owner of a site is to add a tag to the HTML code of your site’s homepage . Google will then verify that the meta tag is stored in the specified location.

Depending on your CMS this procedure may vary a little, but it remains fairly simple to implement.

Import an HTML file to your website

If you choose to validate the property this way, you’ll need to download the file provided by Google Search Console. This file will need to be imported into your site. Be careful, however, because if you delete it from your site (for example, after changing your theme), the validation will no longer be valid.

This step is, at least, the most complex. It will require you to have access codes to your domain name provider , information that we may lack when the site was created before our arrival in the company by a person who is no longer there or simply by an agency. And I speak from experience. But know that you can still validate the ownership of a site by adding a DNS record to your domain name provider.

To do this, you must be logged into your domain name provider (add a new TXT record):

  1. Generate your TXT record obtained when you choose this option

  2. Forward the TXT record to your domain provider

  3. Verify your property in Search Console. Validation should text services occur immediately.

However, it can sometimes take a while for DNS changes to take effect. Google may not find your record immediately. In this case, you’ll need to wait before completing step 3.
